Workshop 1: Basic Concepts of Ludopedagogy (November 12, 2019)

This 1-day workshop is designed to introduce the use of games by teachers, and more generally anyone who wants to discover the basic concepts of ludopedagogy.. It will be facilitated by Thiagi, Nathalie Jacquemin and Gauthier de Pierpont. The workshop will use different types of interactive techniques to explore the use of training games in education.


  1. Why use games for training? Key ideas explored through a textra game.

  2. Use of games in the classroom. Different types of training games explored through an interactive lecture.

  3. Resistance toward the use of games for teaching. Exploring the reasons why teachers and parents may not like games in the classroom, explored through a structured-sharing activity.

  4. How to persuade others to accept games. Generating strategies for influencing the participants through a role-play.

  5. Useful Questions. A closing activity for collecting and answering participants’ questions.

Improving the Effectiveness of Adult Training
3-Day Workshop

Workshop Description

This 3-day workshop practices what it preaches. It helps you design and conduct 24 different types of effective training games, simulations, and activities. Based on 30 years of field research, these proven design formats enable you to create training faster, cheaper, and better. You will receive a hefty collection of training games during the workshop and have access to 2000+ web pages with additional games, activities, and facilitation tips.

Target Group

This workshop is designed for trainers, instructional designers, facilitators, and performance consultants.

The workshop helps a wide range of practitioners, from newcomers to experienced specialists, to master skills and concepts related to different types of training games, simulations, and learning exercises.

Day 1: An Introduction to the Design and Delivery of Learning Activities

This workshop demonstrates how to encourage your learners to interact with each other, with the training content, and with the you, the facilitator. You begin the design part of the session by exploring 60 different interactive strategies. You then learn to rapidly create five of these powerful strategies. In the facilitation part of the session, you learn how to conduct these interactive exercises without losing control, wasting time, and being attacked by participants.

Day 2: How to Design and Use Different Types of Training Games and Learning Activities

Day 3: How to Design and Use Different Types of Simulation Games

Can you provide real-world learning opportunities — without incurring the risks and costs associated with them?

Yes, you can — by using simulations. Because simulation activities are very similar to on-the-job training, they ensure effective transfer and application of what you learn in the workshop to the work place. Simulation games provide immediate and realistic feedback. They reduce the risk to the players. Any inappropriate decision or action during the play results in negative consequences — but only in a make-believe environment. Simulation games also provide opportunities for repeated practice. You can discover important principles and practices through trial-and-error experimentation.

Different types of effective simulation activities focus on selected aspects of reality. This workshop provides you with skills associated with the design and delivery of a variety of simulation games.

Advanced Interactive Training Techniques
1-Day Workshop

Workshop Description


This 1-day session is designed for participants who have taken earlier workshops conducted by Thiagi, The Thiagi Group, or Nathalie Jacquemin, it is particularly useful for participants already with experience designing and facilitating training games and activities.

The workshop is divided into three parts:

New Games and Activities. Thiagi and Nathalie will co-facilitate, debrief, and redesign a set of new training games.

Advanced Topics. You will select items from a set of topics (such as handling large groups, handling small groups, gamification for adult training, handling resistance among the participants, evaluating learning from games, and online games). The facilitators will explore these topics in the form of a press-conference game.

Facilitation and Feedback of Games Designed by the Participants. Interested participants will be invited to share the games they have designed. They will receive feedback and suggestions from fellow participants and the facilitators.

The Thiagi Group has conducted training workshops for several years in both Belgium and France. Most recently, Thiagi has collaborated with Mieux Apprendre and Bruno Hourst delivering similar programs in Paris and Brussels. Both Nathalie and Gautier have been certified as trainers in the Thiagi methodology, conducting programs of their own, as well.
