The Goal of Our Web Site

The goal of our web site is to provide useful information without decorative flash.

We won't force you to wait to download huge graphics. We will try to keep our graphics files as small as possible. And you never need to download graphics at all; we will always provide meaningful text alternatives.

We won't annoy you with endless advertisements. Okay, so this site is advertising for us. But we honestly want to provide lots of useful information as well.

We won't force you to switch browsers. If you are happy with Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Opera, Mosaic, WebExplorer, or Lynx, why should you have to change to view somebody's site? If your browser has any problem with a WBT web page, please let me know so I can fix it.

We will use open standards for our HTML content. We are giving our site a "makeover"; when it is done, every one of our pages will be composed of valid HTML 4 (strict DTD) and CSS.

We will use semantic tags instead of literal ones. Purists please note that our pages will use STRONG instead of B and EM or CITE instead of I. This should make our pages very compatible with existing browsers and new ones (in case you ever buy a text-to-speech browser).

We will never use blinking text or endless animations.

We will use open standards (such as Java) for special content. Again, why should we force you to change your browser (or even your operating system) just to view our pages, or run a program?
